Changes…
There’s going to be a few changes coming to Carbon in the coming weeks and months. The most immediate change is going to be in the build schedule.
Bottom line, we’re killing ourselves building nightlies. I picked up a kill-a-watt and attached it to my build server. In one day it sucked down 9 kwh. Multiply that times 31 days and all the other servers in our Jenkins farm, and we’re talking about a lot of power and a lot of money coming out of our people’s pockets. This is a labor of love, and not all of us can afford this sort of thing.
So moving forward, builds will be transitioning to a staggered schedule. Every device will be built twice a week. We know – you love nightlies. Remember, anyone can sync and build Carbon on their own machines. It’s easy and the instructions can be found at https://github.com/CarbonDev/android. You’ll need to setup a build environment using one of the many guides found online first, but once that’s done, it’s a snap to build the latest code.
More changes coming soon – we hope you like them!
